In collaboration with the civil society organisation Germanwatch, Foundations Platform F20 leads an international Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG). The working group seeks to enable F20 partners to advance sustainable finance discussions, and to positively influence the sustainable finance agenda of the G20.
With its experts from a range of different academic and professional backgrounds, the Sustainable Finance Working Group aims to conduct research, compiling briefings for the G7/G20 and sharing insights on sustainable finance with a special lens toward the role of philanthropic organisations. After its implementation in 2022 (co-funded by the DBU), F20 seeks to continue the work of the Sustainable Finance Working Group in Phase II from 2024-2026.
This project includes:
- Assembling an expert group with insider knowledge and expertise toward the new objectives of Phase II. These objectives include — but are not limited to — access to finance, renewable energy finance, and local and national renewable energy programmes
- Regular convenings of the expert group
- Four collaborative convenings at the F20 Climate Solutions Forum and the New York Climate week in 2024 and 2025 and participation at key events (World Bank/IMF/COP29/COP30 in Brazil)
- Publish one new research/policy paper on creative financing methods and tools, with a clear role for philanthropy as an accelerator to support the tripling renewable energy goal
- Create several other publications, and related communications activities
