In collaboration with WWF Deutschland, Foundations Platform F20 leads an international Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG). The working group seeks to enable F20 partners to advance sustainable finance discussions, and to positively influence the sustainable finance agenda of the G20.
With its experts from a range of different academic and professional backgrounds, the Sustainable Finance Working Group aims to conduct research, compiling briefings for the G7/G20 and sharing insights on sustainable finance with a special lens toward the role of philanthropic organisations. After its implementation in 2022 (co-funded by the DBU), F20 is continuing the work of the Sustainable Finance Working Group in Phase III from 2026-2027, focusing on scaling private and philanthropic capital for renewable energy.
This project includes:
- Assembling an expert group with insider knowledge and expertise toward the new objectives of Phase III. These objectives include — but are not limited to — reducing the cost of capital, elevating the usefulness of working blended finance instruments, and engaging credit rating agencies and development finance institutions (DFIs) to unlock new capital flows for climate action.
- Regular virtual and in-person convenings of the expert group.
- Two flagship touchpoints at the F20 Climate Solutions Forum and the New York Climate week in 2026 or 2027 and participation at key events. (World Bank/IMF/COP31/COP31)
- Publish one analytical paper specifying what governments should do and what philanthropy/investors can do to strengthen the G20 Common Framework.
- Create several other publications, and related communications activities.
